Seagull test can also be, more aptly called the Crew Evaluation Test. It is a specialized set of questions prepared for assessing proficiency of a seafarer in terms of basic marine knowledge. This questionnaire functions as an online assessment tool, prepared in accordance with the STCW guidelines for the seafarers.

As such, it is important that all seafarers who wish to apply for a job must acquaint themselves with its pattern. And that is why there are several Seagull trainings and courses available that can be undertaken by mariners for a better preparation for tests.

Seagull offers several courses dealing with different aspects of marine industry, such as crisis and crowd management, Integrated navigation System and Ballast water management. These courses include both theoretical knowledge and practical exercises to provide maximum exposure to the seafarers. As such, both aspects of the course are tested during this crew evaluation test. Some of the most common questions that might be asked in a Seagull test are:

These are some of the questions that can be asked as part of the Seagull crew test. Upon successful completion of this test, the candidate is granted a COC or Course Diploma, certifying him/her having completed the course and holding competence to handle any situation related to the course.

Since this seafarers test is pretty important, it is prudent for mariners to consider it wisely. For this particular crew evaluation test, a mariner would need a complete knowledge of all the shipping basics, along with practical training.

Since practical training is not always easy to come by, especially if you are a freshman, it is important you attain adequate training before taking this crew test. To prepare for seafarers test, following things could be done:

CES & CBT tests developed for evaluating seaman basic knowledge by Seagull Company (rebranded as OTG), is an evaluating online-tool, used for revealing any professional preparation needed in specific fields of knowledge, defined by STCW.

CES tests have proven themselves as good tools for the selection and recruitment process, as well as advancing the level of knowledge of the current officers and crew. Ocean Technologies Group use various subjects for question creation, which includes:

Current test contains Seagull CES questions on the subject MLC Convention 2006. These questions can be used to test the competence of a specialist. The 2006 Maritime Labor Convention is a comprehensive international instrument, currently the main international document regulating social and labor relations in the maritime shipping business. It combines and replaces nearly four dozen existing maritime conventions and related recommendations; it is written in a manner that maximizes its wide and effective application to governments, shipowners and seafarers. The topic MLC Convention 2006 includes theoretical and practical information on all aspects of the International Labor Organization.

This page contains answers to Seagull CES CBT (Crew Evaluation System/Computer Based Test) test about MLC Convention 2006, and serve as a database of questions and answers, using which seafarer can prepare to exams for getting certificate of competence, or just to challenge yourself with knowledge in this theme.
